Environmental Sculpture
Claire
This weeks project was to create a work of art using materials from the natural environment. Inspired by the work of Andy Goldsworthy, I created a work of art with the help of my friends Claire and Johanna off the Blue Ridge Parkway. I decided to name my piece Claire because my friend Claire loves triangles and is constantly making pieces of art in the shape of triangles.

Creating art is so much more fun with friends.

My Process
I really enjoyed this project. It allowed me to channel my creative genus while spending a day outside. I didn't have an idea in mind beforehand and instead found plants, sticks and rocks that I thought were interesting and used them to channel inspiration. As you can see above, I changed the design of the sculpture a few times until I decided to do triangles. I named the final product Claire because my friend Claire almost always incorporates triangles into her art. My sculpture is made of sticks, thorns, lichens and purple leaves. While I was making my sculpture, there were a few road blocks that I encountered and had to problem solve for. It was a very windy day, so I had to improvise by using thorns to pin the leaves down. The lichens were too thick to use thorns, so I used broken pieces of thin sticks as a peg. Also, when I walked away to collect more materials, I piled rocks and sticks over my sculpture to keep the materials from blowing away.
